Why doesnt discord open

Why doesnt discord open DEFAULT

People that use Discord are usually gamers who play multiplayer games and like the social aspect of gaming itself. No matter if you’re using Discord with your friends, teammates, or members of your in-game clan, it’s annoying when the app’s not working.

Discord Won't Open – How to Fix

Imagine having to practice for a tournament with your team, and you can’t use voice chat. That situation sounds like a nightmare but relax; you can fix Discord. There are multiple ways of using Discord via your browser, computer, or mobile app.

Read on for detailed solutions which will help you fix Discord when it doesn’t open.

Problems Based on Discord Device

Discord gets used for multiple purposes, but that isn’t the question here. What’s your platform of choice? Most Discord users use the computer app while they’re gaming. The desktop app is the biggest troublemaker, though.

The web edition of the Discord app is much smoother, and it causes fewer problems. That’s your first fix; change the version of Discord you’re using. If the website app isn’t working either, consider downloading the mobile app on your smartphone.

Discord is available on iOS devices via the Apple App Store and Android devices via the Google Play Store. The free app is accessible across all platforms, and it’s simple to install and use. Remember to update your Discord app of choice regularly for maximum efficiency.

Sometimes when Discord doesn’t open, all you need to do is update it. If the app still doesn’t work, try uninstalling Discord from your device and installing a newer, most recent version of the app. In most cases, this does the trick, but if the problem persists, read on for additional fixes.

Also, make sure that your operating system is up to date, no matter which device you use. System updates often have an impact on all software on your device, including the Discord app.

Note that Discord for Windows works only on Windows 7 or newer. You can use the same Discord account across all platforms, or you can make multiple accounts for free. It’s up to you.

How to Fix Discord in Windows

Since most Discord users use the PC version of the app, let’s talk about the fixes for the app misbehaving.

Fix Discord Not Opening using Windows 10 Task Manager

You can use the Task Manager on your computer to kill the task and start Discord again. Here is how:

  1. Press “Ctrl-Alt-Delete.” On older versions of Windows, the “Task Manager” will pop up instantly, but on Windows 10, you need to select it from the list, or you can press “Ctrl-Shift-Esc” instead and go straight to it.
  2. The “Processes” tab opens. Find and right-click on “Discord,” then select “End Task.” Ensure you right-click on the main Discord link, not the subdirectory entries. If a “Not responding” popup appears, Force close the task.
  3. Once Discord is terminated, launch it again.

If Discord still doesn’t open, move on to the next solution.

Fix Discord Not Opening by Changing Date and Time on Windows 10

This fix doesn’t make much sense, but it works for some users. You’ll need to set the Windows 10 date and time to automatic. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click on the “date and time in the taskbar” (bottom right), then click on “Adjust date/time.”
  2. Enable the feature “Set time automatically” by moving the slider to the right. If it’s already on, click “Sync now” to update your time.

If Discord still won’t launch after adjusting the time and date, restart your PC and try again, then move on to the next solution if you still face the same problem.

Fix Discord Not Opening by Disabling Proxies in Windows 10

Many apps, including Discord, don’t work well with proxies, such as VPN services. If you have a VPN or other proxy on your ISP, clearing out the way might help get Discord going. Here’s how you can disable proxies:

  1. In the Cortana search bar, type “internet options” and select “Internet Options (Control Panel)” from the list or click on “Open.”
  2. Select the “Connections” tab on the window that appears.
  3. Click on “LAN Settings.”
  4. Uncheck “Use a proxy server for your LAN…”
  5. Confirm by selecting “OK” twice.

Now that your proxy is disabled, Discord should work. Try launching it and see what happens.

Fix Discord by Resetting the Domain Name System (DNS) in Windows 10

Finally, you can try resetting your DNS servers in Windows Here is how to do it:

  1. Make sure all Discord processes are closed using the “Task Manager.”
  2. Press the “Windows key + R” to open the “Run” dialog, then type “cmd” and press “enter” or select “OK” to launch the Commnand Prompt—admin not required.
  3. In the Command Prompt, type “ipconfig/flushdns” and press “enter.”

Try relaunching Discord to see if resetting the DNS solved the problem.

Finally, you can hopefully get back to gaming with your friends or teammates while using Discord. Having good communication is very important in life, and the same applies to video games. You can’t be a team player without having the ability to speak up, discuss tactics, make plans, etc.

Discord enables free, instant, and reliable communication, making the app very valuable and a great tool.

You can download drivers from the manufacturer official website. Search for the model you have and find the correct driver that suits your specific operating system. Then download the driver manually.

Option 2 – Automatically update drivers

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

You can update your drivers automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a day money back guarantee):

    Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. (This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a day money back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All.)

Open discord why doesnt

Some people have reported a rather bizarre issue haunting Discord. Upon launching, the app fails to open or, in some cases, displays the classic grey Discord window without any functionality.

The great minds at Discord have been scratching their heads in frustration at what is causing this with — as of the time of writing — no solution on the horizon.

All’s not lost, though: We’ve compiled a list of fixes that will have Discord up and running in no time.

Unfortunately, as the root of the problem is unknown, we can’t say for sure which one will resolve it in your particular case, so it’s a case of trial and error.

Without further ado, here’s what to do if Discord won’t open.

Close All Discord Services & Relaunch

Can't Hear People On Discord

Occasionally, a previous Discord session may not have shut down correctly, leaving it more or less open in the background, causing issues when you try to relaunch the app. To remedy this, close any lingering services linked to Discord. We recommend doing this before attempting any of the other fixes below.

  1. Type Ctrl + Alt + Del on the keyboard.
  2. Select &#;Task Manager&#; from the blue screen-backed options that appear.
  3. In the Task Manager window, find and click on Discord among the listed services under &#;Apps.&#;
  4. Click on the &#;End Task&#; button appearing in the bottom right-hand corner of the Task Manager window.
  5. Wait for the services to terminate and then reopen Discord from the desktop icon or the Windows Start menu, depending on how you have it set up. Before launching Discord, we would even recommend restarting the PC and Windows for good measure.

Set Windows Date/Time To Automatic

Discord Can't Hear Anyone

Here we have a strange fix, but one that has worked for some people. Manually set Windows date/time info can interfere with Discord opening for reasons that are wholly unknown to us. Oh, the mystery! Gotta love technology.

  1. Right-click on the digital time in the bottom right of the Windows task menu and select &#;Adjust date/time.&#;
  2. In the &#;Date & time&#; window, make sure the &#;Set time automatically&#; option is toggled to &#;On.&#;
  3. Restart the PC and launch Discord.

Disable Proxies

Discord doesn’t like VPNs and the like. As such, disabling any proxies in your connection to an ISP is a sure-fire way to clear out the piping for Discord to open correctly. Here’s how you go about doing that:

  1. Right-click on the Windows start menu and click on &#;Search.&#;
Can't Hear Anyone On Discord
  1. In the search field, type &#;Control Panel&#; and select the option with the same name from the search results.
Discord Can't Hear
  1. Choose &#;Network and Internet&#; from the Control Panel options.
  2. Click on &#;Internet Options.&#;
Discord Can't Hear Others
  1. In the &#;Internet Properties&#; window that appears, click on the &#;Connections&#; tab among the options running vertically along the top of the screen.
I Can't Hear Anyone On Discord Copy
  1. Under the &#;Local Area Network (LAN) Settings&#; section, click on &#;LAN Settings.&#;
  2. Once the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings appear, find the &#;Proxy server&#; section and ensure the &#;Use a proxy server for your LAN&#; option is unticked.
Why Can't I Hear People On Discord
  1. Click the &#;Ok&#; option below, then once more in the &#;Internet Properties&#; window.
  2. Launch Discord.

Remove Malware

The problem with Discord not opening might not be linked to the app itself, corrupted files, or a Windows setting, but instead to malicious software that has found its way onto the PC.

Forming part of any regular PC maintenance routine, running an anti-malware program such as Malwarebytes has been known to fix the Discord-not-opening problem.

  1. Download and install Malwarebytes here.
  2. Run the program to track down any unsuspected trojans or other malware threats and remove them as instructed.
  3. Open up your antivirus software and perform a scan. Follow instructions to remove any suspected threats.
  4. Launch Discord.

Update Discord

Can't Hear Anything On Discord

Visit the Discord website here and download the latest version of Discord. The app is continuously being improved and updated, meaning the newest iteration may include a coding rejig that could fix your particular issue.

Log In To The Discord Browser App

Discord Cant Hear

In a weird feedback loop that causes the login process to fail, Discord can be prevented from opening. To fix this:

  1. Launch Discord on your desktop even if it won’t open.
  2. Open your browser, and open the Discord browser app here.
  3. Log in to your account with your details.
  4. Discord will automatically link up the two sessions, resolving any login bugs on the desktop version by resetting the login details. You’ll be prompted to confirm whether you want to log in on the desktop app if it has worked. Do so to access Discord and your servers.

Delete LocalAppData

  1. Close Discord via the method above using the Task Manager.
  2. Right-click on the Windows Start menu and select &#;Run&#; from the drop-down options.
  3. Type &#; %localappdata% &#; into the search field and click on &#;Ok.&#;
  4. Find &#;Discord&#; among the list of files and right-click on it.
  5. From the contextual drop-down menu, click on delete.
  6. Relaunch Discord.

Uninstall & Reinstall Discord

Probably the most extreme solution in our guide, but we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Discord if everything else seems to fail.

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start menu and then on &#;Settings.&#;
  2. In the Windows Settings window, click on &#;Apps,&#; the sixth icon on the list.
  3. Under &#;Apps & Features,&#; find the entry for Discord and click on it.
  4. In the expanded contextual menu, click on &#;Uninstall.&#;
  5. Follow the steps laid out in the uninstall wizard.
Friend Can't Hear Me On Discord
  1. Alternatively, right-click on the Windows Start menu and select &#;Search.&#;
  2. Type &#; Control Panel &#; into the search field and click on the result of the same name.
  3. In the Control Panel, click on the &#;Uninstall a program&#; option just below &#;Programs.&#;
Discord Randomly Can't Hear Anyone
  1. Locate Discord from the list of programs and click on it.
  2. Click on &#;Uninstall&#; just above the list and follow the prompts from the uninstallation wizard.

To make way for a fresh install, we need to remove all temporary Discord data by rinsing out the AppData folder. Note that you can bypass the uninstall step and try clearing the AppData Discord folder first to see if this fixes the issue.

It has been known to do so in specific instances. Make sure you close Discord and any associated services before beginning via Task Manager.

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start menu and select &#;Run&#; from the drop-down options.
I Can't Hear My Friend On Discord
  1. Type &#; %appdata% &#; into the search field and click on &#;Ok.&#;
Cant Hear People In Discord
  1. Find &#;Discord&#; among the list of files and right-click on it.
I Can't Hear People On Discord
  1. From the contextual drop-down menu, click on &#;Delete.&#;

You may also want to do the same for the %localappdata% folder.

Now, to reinstall Discord:

  1. Once complete, load up your favored browser and visit the download section of the Discord web site here.
  2. Click on the &#;Download Now&#; button.
Discord Can't Hear Friend
  1. When prompted, click on &#;Save File.&#;
  2. Once downloaded, double click on the &#;Discord Setup&#; executable file and follow the instructions provided by the installation wizard.
  3. When complete, launch Discord.

DNS Reset

Another solution is to flush out the DNS settings on the PC being used to launch Discord. As an internet-based application, Discord can sometimes encounter connection issues that are quickly ironed out by following these steps:
