Clearing map forest dnd

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

This is really an awesome tool. My only suggestion to make it better is to include a chasm option. A bridge option would also be cool, to have access to the other side. Also I do like the horizontal layout, but it would be neat to be able to choose between it or vertical.

this is pretty kool, but i was wondering if you had something with a little less detailed ground, so you can distinguish the floor from trees easier, thanks a bunch

Comment Posted Sat October 14, 2006, 6:16 am by bluestreekhydro

Outstanding! What a great tool. It would be nice to have an option for a bold gridline. Good work Gozzy.

I love your dungeon generators, and use them a lot. However, I'm not a big fan of your choice of textures for the ground and foliage. Looks too "photographic" and intense. I would prefer something a little simpler, and typical of a fantasy map. Thanks for offering this, though!

A grid on some of your maps would be welcome, grids are very helpfull even if they make it less like a picture of the scene. These seem more like warhammer maps than what I'm looking for

Love this site! I wish that graph lines were heavier or that an option for hex grid was available

To call this a simply excellent generator... That's a crime for which I can only reccomend one punishment: The Dreaded Hammergun. Seriously, this is too awesome for mortal ken.

This wilderness map creator is great ! With all these generators, your site is definitely one of the best for DMs. Keep on the good work !

This is absolutely great!! This is perfectly what I'm looking for for my RECON campaign! It'd be easier for my players to better visualize a jungle than my hand drawn maps...

It would be nice if the grid overlay option had "ortho" and "hex" instead of just "yes."

Comment Posted Sun February 4, 2007, 8:39 am by strange_person

Great map generators, they look beautiful. I see lots of people leave suggestions, so I guess I should, too. I agree with bluestreekhydro: the ground is hard to distinguish from trees, especially when printing in b&w.

Comment Posted Fri March 23, 2007, 4:05 am by Paul

that is very good but it needs a grid or hex button kind of thing

Comment Posted Fri March 30, 2007, 1:36 am by me

Hi "me". The grid had to be temporarily removed due to issues with memory performance. It'll be back soon.

just a little something for spacial relationships and size reference

Comment Posted Tue July 3, 2007, 3:53 am by tropicalady

Like others, I'd like to say this is truly impressive. Besides the ability to have a grid (which I could always do w/a ruler and pen), I noticed even on the lowest setting, there was still a fair amount of foilage. If you can manage it, it would be nice to have an even lower setting. It also would be nice to be able to turn off the foilage entirely for those cleared areas near forts, etc. If it's not too much trouble, modifying the images of trees to give a hint of the trunk would make it easier to adjudicate quickly which are trees that can be climbed, block line of sight, etc. vs those that are lower bushes. These are small things, however. I've looked at dunjinni maps that someone slaved over for hours and hours that didn't look as good as something your program spits out in 15 seconds.

Comment Posted Tue August 14, 2007, 5:43 pm by CastTiltowait

A scalable gridline would be very useful so long as you're fixing the grid. The baseline terrain seems very indicative of a tropical jungle, something with a grass base for a more temperate look and a desert base would give the map a great deal of visual flexibility, I for one plan to use this with my digital projector mapping set up. Overall this looks like a really promising beginning, I'd say run with it.

its awesome but you should include squares like yall do for the dungeons. Incrediable nevertheless keep it up.

Awsome generator but I too would like a grid option for this and some of the other maps as well. Thanks!

Comment Posted Fri May 2, 2008, 11:22 pm by AquaMAsta

Seconded on the grid - Would really help make these maps usable for wilderness encounters. :)

Comment Posted Sun August 3, 2008, 4:07 am by SnowLeopard

freak\\\'in awesome !

Comment Posted Thu January 15, 2009, 5:25 pm by Bumbash

This is excellent - thanks! If you could reduce the scale so that it's similar to the other maps that would also be really useful. I guess a version of the dungeon/cave generator for a mazy forest would be really great. Perhaps the solid areas are dense foliage with walls made from trees, bushes etc connected by a network of paths and trails. We're all so demanding....great work, thanks.

Your program is awesome, awesome, awesome, and I hope it's not abandoned! It's waaay too awesome to abandon!

Comment Posted Sat March 28, 2009, 8:16 pm by PantsofDoom

Guys, seriously, just load the generated map into something like RPTools MapTool and add the bridges and grids and stuff you want from there! It would be nice to be able to generate larger maps, or maybe an algorithm that makes the maps tileable...

it is super awesome, any chance of building a city generator?

You need a grid. Other than that, good work.

Comment Posted Mon March 29, 2010, 8:19 pm by kamimatsu

I like it, like it a lot but I third/fourth etc the grid thing, definitely would be awesome for the RPG project I'm working on for the java SDK. If it had a grid I could definitely use this for an outdoor level.

Comment Posted Sun April 11, 2010, 4:55 am by Kneemin

I would vote for an option for hexes and square grids. I have to say, your wilderness, cave, and dungeon generators save a million years of time.

Comment Posted Thu September 30, 2010, 10:53 am by baconcow

for all of you people who want the grid overlay, I found that it works just as well to print it out on graph paper. there are plenty of sites just through google that will allow you to customize the size of the grid and then just run the map through again, it doesn't print over the grid. Over all great program, especially if you're a problem solver. Hope you get around to makeing a city generator sometime

Beautiful! Wouldn't mind seeing a grid option, or "trunk placement" option.

Comment Posted Thu May 17, 2012, 5:11 pm by hamster_boy

Just got the demo of a random map generator (that you need to download and pay for the full version) And it was not a fraction of this quality.

Comment Posted Thu July 5, 2012, 1:36 am by Vatra

Ok, I'll say it, you are da man, this thing is GOOD. As many other said, an option for grid and a way to tile these things so that a bigger one could be made. Lastly if you could possibly add more options other than the jungle type, something like a more desert oriented or a more rocky kind of theme.

Comment Posted Sat September 29, 2012, 9:58 pm by beholder

This is absolutely incredible!!!! Have you ever thought about doing a random generator for MapRools from RPtools?! This is just incredible!

Comment Posted Thu February 7, 2013, 6:32 pm by Ellis Benus

This is unbelievable to say the least

Comment Posted Thu May 30, 2013, 4:00 pm by Tivaan

I second the motion for a grid option. I know you can just put a grid on it yourself, but when i do maps, I always prefer, to have trees and objects ABOVE the grid. It really makes the maps better and makes them seem less flat in my opinion. So a grid option, that puts a grid on the ground and then the trees/ruins on top of that would be awesome. Or maybe an option to get a layered output, so you could mix it all up the way you like in photoshop afterwards. Either way, still a great tool :)

Comment Posted Tue June 4, 2013, 3:08 pm by mughoj

Love it. I agree with the grid but wonder if that would just take a bit to much work. So it's not a must. I do how ever feel a must is, open it in a separate window each time it is hit. Then, we can see the map and we don't have to hit the back button to get back to your site. Plus, it lets us generate a number of maps at one time. Gives us something to build from.

Comment Posted Thu October 10, 2013, 6:03 pm by Epic

Just what I was looking for, thanks so much.

Comment Posted Sun August 23, 2015, 10:11 am by Didz

Pretty useful. Can't see any ruins when I try to include them. Tree trunks lying about would be good. I would also like to see maybe the inclusion of a slope or hill, and maybe a cave mouth. I have taken the base image and photoshopped these things in as I required them, but other people might not know how.
