Stay Organized: Best Dumbbell Racks

Best Dumbbell Racks Buying Guide

We can all agree it is easier to practice our workout routines from the comfort of our homes. However, in setting up a workout space or room at home, organization and proper placement are key.

Dumbbells are staple workout equipment and are exceptionally versatile for home workout routines. And although compact and would mostly fit into any corner of your room, you will most likely have more than a single pair of dumbbells, and will quickly see the need for organization.

The most suitable arrangement plan for a set of dumbbells is a standard dumbbell rack. A dumbbell rack is a solid frame - usually a stand with rails built to store and hold dumbbell pairs of different sizes and weights.

But purchasing anything in the increasingly popular gym equipment market may be very confusing, especially for unaccustomed eyes. Almost everyone is now fitness-conscious and the options can get overwhelming.

We have given you an outline of the best dumbbell racks on the market that stand out from the bunch. But which to choose? We’re still here to help. In the rest of this buying guide, we will take you through considerations you want to make and qualities to look out for in a dumbbell rack before you make a purchase.

Size And Weight Capacity

Most dumbbell racks have standard size specifications tailored after the different dumbbell sizes. Any dumbbell rack you are buying should be able to hold the dimensions and weights of your dumbbell set. You should know the number of dumbbells and their weight you want to organize and match these to the specifications of the rack.

Also, whether the rack would hold adjustable or fixed-weight dumbbells should be taken into serious consideration. Doing this will provide a clear idea of the size of the dumbbell rack you need to buy.  Another determining factor in choosing your size of dumbbell rack is the space available to store it. A dumbbell rack will typically take up a significant amount of space in your workout room. Hence, it is very important to pay attention to your available space and positioning for the rack.

Types of Dumbbell Racks

Just like dumbbells themselves, dumbbell racks come in different types. Each of these possesses its different peculiarities and level of efficiency.

Straight vertical dumbbell rack

This is shaped as the name indicates; a vertical rack built to hold dumbbells at levels stacked one above the other. This eliminates the need to bend over numerous times to reach or drop the dumbbells during workout routines. An important thing to note is that gravity limits the weight of dumbbells that can be stored on this type of dumbbell rack. Overloading the rack may cause it to tip over and fall.

Horizontal rack

Horizontal racks hold dumbbells low and in a row, one beside the other. They can store more and heavier dumbbells than vertical models.

For a dumbbell rack to be efficient, it must be sturdy. It must come with a solid build that is rated to hold the weight of several dumbbells with buckling. Usually, dumbbell racks are made from heavy gauge steel or wood, and in some cases, both. Either way, dumbbell racks must not have a frail or slight framework. It is very important that they are built to last, and not cave in under the weight of the dumbbells.

The number of tiers on a dumbbell rack is the number of levels available to store your dumbbells. There are flat three or four-tiered dumbbell racks, and even more on vertical racks. The more dumbbells you have to store, the more tiers you want to see on the rack.

Note in particular, that triangular-shaped dumbbell racks are mostly recommended for personal or home use. They are the most suited to smaller spaces as they reduce in dimensions upwards. Flat-tiered racks may be more suited for professional use or if you have many dumbbells to store.

The price range for dumbbell racks can be very wide, but there is a dumbbell rack for every budget. From around $100 for a small-capacity unit to over $1000 for racks designed to hold much, your choice will depend on what you are willing to spend. Sometimes, it is advisable to buy the full set of dumbbells along with the accompanying rack. And while this will cost extra, the complete set offers standard quality, at a cheaper price when compared to buying the dumbbells and its rack separately.

Essentially, the important thing to consider in relation to your budget for dumbbell racks is the best quality you can get for your money’s worth.

Dumbbell Rack FAQ

How much does a dumbbell rack cost?

A dumbbell rack rated to hold heavy-weight dumbbells between 5-50 lbs. may cost up to a thousand dollars or more. For smaller dumbbell sets say between 2.5-15 lbs. You can expect anywhere around $50-100. And mid-weight racks, somewhere in between.

How much room do you need for a dumbbell rack?

Since dumbbell racks are available in different types and sizes, there is no exact value on how much space you need. It may be a good idea to physically measure your space and then choose a dumbbell rack that sits well in that.
