Short and Simple Family Recipes

Amy Roloff is well-known to millions of fans from TLC's family-friendly reality TV show, Little People, Big World where audiences have watched her family face obstacles, overcome challenges, and live their lives on camera, as well as watch Amy prepare meals for her family over the past seven years. Amy may be little, but she is making a BIG difference in the world in many ways. Business woman, inspirational speaker, TV star, philanthropist, farm owner, author, and mom are just a few words that describe this one-of-a-kind woman. Amy realized her passion for people and for helping others reach their potential as a kid growing up. Her challenges, experiences as a little person, and successes as a graduate with a BSBA from Central Michigan University in Personnel and Hospitality, an early education teacher, manager of a soccer club, youth team soccer coach, television star, and charity foundation head are some of the ways that she has naturally inspired and touched people lives. She has made a difference and wants to know that others can make a difference too. In preparing the cookbook, TLC’s production company filmed her in her kitchen as she tested recipes and worked with the food photographer as he shot pictures of the plated food for the cookbook. The filming continued during a meeting with the publisher as they discussed the forthcoming cookbook with Amy and the food photographer. These four special one-hour programs of Little People, Big World are being aired during 2012 and leading up to the publication of SHORT & SIMPLE FAMILY RECIPES. Besides being a masterful home cook, Amy has made four appearances on Rachael Ray’s program where they have cooked food together. She has done a number of cooking demonstrations at public events such as The Bite of Oregon. Amy is also a paid public speaker, traveling throughout the country spreading awareness about acceptance and bullying. The Amy Roloff Charity Foundation helps children and families in need, and a portion of the cookbook proceeds will go to her charity. Amy, her husband Matt, and their children live on a farm near Portland, Oregon.

Amy Roloff Making Salisbury Steak – Classic ‘TV Dinner’

‘LPBW’ Fans Continue To Harp On Amy Roloff’s Disgusting Cooking Habits

Amy Roloff loves to cook! She often shares cooking videos on her Instagram. In fact, she has a whole website dedicated to her love of food. While many of her followers enjoy watching Amy Roloff cook, some find some of her cooking habits downright disgusting. What does Amy do that riles her fans so much?

LPBW Star Published Cookbook Author

Little People, Big World star Amy Roloff has a love-her-or-hate-her personality. For many years, fans of the show slammed Amy for the way she treated her then-husband, Matt Roloff. However, after the two split, the pendulum swung in Amy’s favor. She has since turned reality TV stardom into published author.

In 2019, her memoir, A Little Me, came out. However, that wasn’t her first foray into the publishing world. In 2012, she released a cookbook of family recipes, Short and Simple Family Recipes.

More recently, she created a website to share her favorite recipes with her fans. Amy Roloff’s Little Kitchen features recipes, a blog, and even a link to book Amy for speaking engagements.

While the LPBW star loves to cook meals, she’s most famous for her fudge.

Famous Fudge

Several times a year, Amy Roloff releases a new collection of fudge. Right now, Amy’s Little Kitchen is selling fudge inspired by summer. Oregon Hazelnut Mocha & Oregon Berry Fudge is the featured fudge. She also creates collections for special occasions, such as Christmas and Father’s Day.

Her fudge is by far the most popular item from her kitchen.

Fans Grossed Out by Amy Roloff’s Unsanitary Cooking Habits

Amy Roloff’s Instagram is filled with cooking videos, including the prep. Amy also indulges in whatever meal she’s making. In the comments on one of her recent cooking videos, fans slammed her for eating with her mouth open.

Another fan wants her to wear a hair net.

One featured dinner was bolognese sauce over pasta. The video earned almost 90K views and over 150 comments. Many of her followers chimed in to correct how Amy Roloff pronounces “bolognese.” See the video below for an example of her mispronunciation and unsanitary habits that fans absolutely hate.

Amy Roloff seems to pay no mind to the trolls. She rarely gives them the time of day with a response. And she certainly has no intention to stop sharing her recipes and kitchen videos.

One reason why Amy may not let the trolls bother her is because she has a lot going on in her life. She’s currently planning her late August wedding to Chris Marek. The happy couple has been waiting to marry since 2019.

They had to push back their 2020 wedding plans due to the pandemic. And then this year, they ran into trouble finding an available venue. Luckily, Amy’s ex came to the rescue and offered up Roloff Farms. The wedding will take place on August 28, 2021.

TLC has yet to announce if the wedding will air in a possible Season 23 or as a stand-alone special. However, Zach Roloff all but confirmed that the cameras will be rolling for the nuptials.

Do you think fans are too hard on Amy Roloff’s cooking habits? Let us know in the comments below.

Tune in to Little People, Big World Tuesdays on TLC for the lead-up to Amy’s big day.

Short and Simple Family Recipes

Amy Roloff
Westwinds Press (Oct 1, 2012)
$19.99 (144pp)
978-0-88240-888-0

Amy Roloff, costar of the former TLC series Little People, Big World, is no stranger to challenges. As a little person, she has surmounted many of them, including learning to adapt to using the kitchen as a young woman, something strongly encouraged by her parents. Now a mother of four, one of Roloff’s biggest dreams was to write a cookbook, as food and cooking have played a key role in her life. This work is the culmination of that goal. There’s nothing fancy in these pages—and that was the intent; Amy’s collection of basic recipes should find a good home on any busy family’s shelf.

To complete the homey feel of the book, Amy includes some anecdotal memories that she associates with some of the recipes. For example, in a side bar, she informs the reader that she’d serve her quiche lorraine recipe on lazy Sunday mornings or that the scallop pesto crostini was a dish she made for a wrap-up party with her TV crew. Other recipes will indicate a family member’s favorite, personalizing the cookbook even more, particularly for those who are familiar with the show.

Chapters are fairly standard: starters, breakfast/brunch, light lunch, meals for a crowd, desserts, etc. Most of the recipes could be described as comfort food. Examples include flat bread pizza, blueberry muffins, chicken enchiladas, winter chili, and pumpkin bread. The secret ingredient in her mini meatloaves is “Dijon mustard for a little zing,” and that sausage, ground beef, and red wine is the winning combination in her meat sauce recipe.

But not all the recipes are that heavy—there are options for salmon, salads, and oatmeal, to name some lighter fare. Photos accompany some of the recipes.

Cooks will appreciate the inclusion of a recommended list of pantry essentials; moms will appreciate the “Kid’s Corner” section, a collection of easy recipes that Amy has made with her children, to connect with them while teaching them to cook.

My own family tried the macaroni and cheese made with two kinds of fresh cheeses and topped with Italian breadcrumbs for flavoring. Not only was it a hit, but it was, as promised, simple to prepare. This reviewer also tested the raspberry orange smoothie recipe: again, simple and delicious.

Amy’s personal stories throughout the book, including the introductions at the beginning of each chapter, are as welcoming and comforting as the recipes themselves.
